Xos and Winnebago team up to develop electric specialty vehicle chassis – Charged EVs

Los Angeles-headquartered Xos, a manufacturer of electric trucks and powertrain components, has partnered with RV maker Winnebago to develop a customized electric chassis for Winnebago’s Specialty Vehicles division.

Winnebago Specialty Vehicles’ manufacturing operations are in Forest City, Iowa. It has been producing electric vehicles since 2018 for mobile commercial applications, for customers with accessibility challenges, and for such purposes as mobile medical and opioid clinics.

The specialized chassis for Winnebago will underpin the company’s commercial vehicle shells, which are available in 33-foot and 38-foot lengths. It will use Xos’s established SV platform technology to allow for rapid scalability and streamlined access to parts, software improvements and service support.

“We are constantly monitoring evolving customer needs and technology solutions, and our partnership with Xos represents a milestone in our journey into the future of electric specialty vehicles,” said Jamie Sorenson, Director in Winnebago Industries’ Advanced Technology Group.
