Residual Value Awards analysis
The awards are calculated using Autovista Group analysis and insights. Forecast trade RVs of cars at 36 months and 60,000km are collected, calculated and confirmed across 17 European used-car markets from July to September 2025.
Countries covered include Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the UK.
To qualify for the awards, vehicles must fall between the 10th and 90th percentiles of a category’s horsepower distribution. This ensures the finalist table does not feature cars with extreme power outputs at either end of the spectrum. Including these vehicles has the potential to produce distorted results.
The same methodology was used with model variants. Versions were excluded if they were from the very lowest, or very highest, end of the pricing spectrum. Therefore, no entry-level versions or extreme sports editions were considered as part of the analysis, enabling focus on mainstream trims and specifications.
Awards values indexed
Autovista Group analysis found the version of each model with the highest value retention. The RVs were expressed as a percentage of the retained new car list price (%RV). Qualifying models were indexed by dividing their %RV by the category average in each used-car market.
The winners were then determined on a category’s average index across the 17 locations. This was weighted against the new-car sales volume in each country. Then the results from high-volume markets could be represented in the final figures.
