State’s first scrapping centre to start ops soon – ET Auto

The state-of-the-art machines will dismantle, segregate and crush the old vehicles and declare them as scrap.

The state’s first registered vehicle scraping centre, built at Tekka Bigha in Bakhtiyarpur in Patna district, is likely to become operational soon. According to a transport department official, 10 old government vehicles have so far been received at the facility.

Spread in an area of over 21,025 sq metres, the facility has both manual and automated machines which have been imported from China and Taiwan. The state-of-the-art machines will dismantle, segregate and crush the old vehicles and declare them as scrap. The Regional Transport Authority has already conducted an inspection of the scrapping yard, being run by a private firm with approval from the transport department.

Transport secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said the workers at the facility dismantle different parts of vehicles, segregate them and make use of scrapped materials in making sofas, furniture and other useful things, by following the “waste to wealth” policy.

The scrapping centre has the capacity to process 300 lightweight vehicles (cars and bikes), 200 medium vehicles (hyva), 100 heavy vehicles (trucks, tractors and buses) and 100 other types of vehicles (lorries) per month.

At least 14 more scrapping centres will come up in the state – three in Patna, two in Vaishali and one each in West Champaran, Siwan, Gopalganj, Bhagalpur, Banka, Darbhanga, Purnia, Saharsa and Madhepura districts.
