As tensions escalated, the driver halted the cab and demanded extra payment, creating a scene that frightened Verma’s son.

New Delhi: Kiran Verma, took to his Linkedin account to share a disturbing account of an Ola cab ride gone horribly wrong. The alleged assault occurred when Verma, his 6-year old son also was with him, refused to pay additional cash to the Ola driver who had deviated from the intended route.

According to Verma, the driver insisted on cash payment, leading to a confrontation. The driver reportedly took a completely different route, citing a traffic jam when questioned, Verma said.

As tensions escalated, the driver halted the cab and demanded extra payment, creating a scene that frightened Verma’s son. Amidst the chaos, Verma dialed Ola’s security helpline and contacted the police.

The situation took a violent turn when, Verma refused to pay and attempted to document the incident, the driver allegedly slapped him. A passerby, identified as another cab driver, intervened, preventing further harm. Verma reported the incident to the UP Police, though he said no meaningful action was taken.

ETAuto tried reaching out to Ola, but they did not respond.

Ola responded to the incident with a statement, “After thoroughly investigating the issue at our end, strict action has already been taken against the driver partner. We are trying to reach out and reassure the customer so that we can address any additional concerns they might have. At Ola, we are customer first, and remain committed to resolving all customer concerns promptly. We continue to value feedback, and are constantly working to improve our services to meet customer expectations.”

Verma’s social media post, accompanied by the hashtag #SayNotoOla, has gained attention, shedding light on the need for heightened security measures within ride-sharing services. The incident has also prompted comparisons to Uber, which Verma claimed takes more decisive action against such drivers.
