State owned iron ore miner NMDC Ltd on Friday said it has crossed a milestone of 40 million tonnes (MT) of iron ore production and sales for the first time in its history in the first 11 months of a financial year in 2023-24.
NMDC produced 40.24 MT of iron ore in the April 2023-Feb 2024 period and sold 40.48 MT for the same period, delivering its best ever cumulative volumes up to Feb 2024.
This was a 13% rise in cumulative production and 21% jump in cumulative sales up to Feb 2024 over the corresponding period of FY23.
In Feb 2024, the Hyderabad-based Navratna public sector undertaking (PSU) churned out 3.92 MT million tonnes and sold 3.99 MT of iron ore, which is also the company’s best-ever Feb month sales since inception, it said.
NMDC chairman & managing director (additional charge) Amitava Mukherjee said: “The first mining company in India to cross the 40 million tonne mark and to achieve this milestone three times in row, we are poised to deliver historic iron ore volumes in FY24.”
“NMDC’s growth has a multiplier effect throughout the economy. We are strategically positioning ourselves to augment this growth by ramping up production capacities, enhancing supply chain reliability and transforming towards NMDC 2.0,” Mukherjee added.
