MG Motor India aims to be carbon neutral by 2029, said the company’s Director of manufacturing Ravi Mittal.

During a visit to the manufacturing plant in Halol, Gujarat he highlighted that the company’s Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions per car have reduced from 0.7 tonnes in 2021 to 0.3 tonnes last year. Per car energy used has also reduced from 700 kwh per car to 460 to 480 kwh per car, Mittal stated.

Currently, 50% of the energy that the plant uses is green energy, which is supplied through wind and solar energy supplied by CleanMax to MGI Halol by their 4.5 MW plant. It has a collaboration with PPG Asian, an American paint and chemical supply partner. It supplies chemicals that work at room temperature and has reduced the need for gas requirements by 35% in the last few years.

The Halol plant is a zero-discharge plant and the water is treated and reused in washrooms and gardens.

It also aims to be a net zero emissions company by 2035 and focus not only on Co2 but also Nox and other greenhouse Gases.

The Halol manufacturing plant has a capacity of 1,25,000 units per year.
