Mahindra XUV700 AX5 launched | Autocar Professional

Mahindra has launched a new mid-level trim for the XUV700 SUV, the AX5 Select (AX5 S), which sits between AX3 and AX5 and gets a few additional features over the former.

Mahindra XUV700 AX5 Select: what’s new?

Positioned above the AX3 trim, which is only available with a five-seat layout, the XUV700 AX5 Select gets a seven-seat configuration besides features such as a panoramic sunroof, push-button start/stop and map lamps for the second row. Earlier this month, Mahindra had also introduced a seven-seat setup for the entry-level MX3 trim, lowering the starting price point for the SUV’s three-row version.

The AX5 Select is available in both petrol and diesel engine options, with the option to choose between a manual and an automatic gearbox. The Mahindra XUV700 AX5 Select petrol MT is priced at Rs 16.89 lakh. The AX5 Select diesel costs Rs 17.49 lakh. The automatic variants are priced Rs 1.6 lakh higher. This makes the AX5 Select variants Rs 50,000 costlier than the AX3 ones.

Mahindra XUV700: powertrains

The XUV700 can be had with either a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 200hp and 380Nm of torque, or a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, which is offered in two states of tune: 155hp and 360Nm in the entry-level variants, and 185hp and 420Nm (450Nm with AT) on the higher-spec variants. Both engines are available with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The diesel unit also gets an all-wheel drive option.

Mahindra XUV700: price and rivals

The Mahindra XUV700 is priced from Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 26.99 lakh, ex-showroom, and competes with Tata Harrier/SafariMG Hector/Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar and Jeep Compass.
