Official sources said the plying of 205 buses in five districts will help more than 44 lakh people.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday launched bus service under the Location Accessible Multi-Modal Initiative (LAccMI) scheme in Cuttack, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Jharsuguda and Kandhamal districts. As many as 205 buses will connect 700 gram panchayats across these five districts.

Naveen, who launched the service through video-conferencing, said, “The scheme will play a significant role in strengthening the economy of the villages. Rural people can travel to their nearby town by paying Rs 5 only. LAccMI buses will make the lives of rural people easier and bring them prosperity.”

He added, “I give respect to the wishes of people. Our schemes, plans and programmes are based on the views of people and the LAccMI scheme is one of those. During his district tour, 5T chairman V K Pandian had received this proposal from across the state. Then we took this decision to solve connectivity issues in rural areas.”
