IRCTC onboards Swiggy as a food delivery service partner – ET Auto



The IRCTC has on boarded Zomato some time last year as online food service delivery partner and its services are currently available at 63 stations in the Indian Railway network.

As disclosed in the regulatory filing by the IRCTC a couple of weeks ago, the Corporation has officially signed an MoU with online food aggregator, Swiggy, to be a partner for online food delivery partner for pre-booked food for Indian railway passengers. The service which is expected to commence in a week’s time, will be available at four select stations of the Indian Railways like Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada to start with and expanded to more stations in coming months.According to Swiggy, the services will be made available in 59 stations of the Indian railway network over the next six months.

As per the partnership, the passengers with valid PNR can pre-order food on the IRCTC app to be delivered at a preferred station while travelling. The passenger can browse through the restaurants listed on the Swiggy in a particular city and order it to be delivered in his seat.

Speaking on the occasion, Sanjay Kumar Jain, CMD of IRCTC said that the corporation has identified A+ and A category stations where most of the mail and express trains stop for e-catering services and the services are currently available across 350 stations in the country.

Jain said that more than the revenue aspect, the focus has always been to add convenience, choice and value to the customers. “Focus has always been to deliver best assured service to customers,” he said.

He said that IRCTC serves close to 60,000 meals per day through an e-catering portal with almost zero percent of complaints. Jain said that the corporation works with 17 food aggregators for the e-catering services.

Jain said that the corporation has set a target of INR 30 crore business through e-catering in the current fiscal year and they have already crossed INR 23 crore revenue.

Rohit Kapoor, CEO- food market place, Swiggy said that the travel market is exploding in India and there are supply constraints when it comes to food experiences. The partnership will help in mitigating the supply constraints and at the same time improving business opportunities to players in the ecosystem.
