ChargePoint debuts the fiercely powerful Megawatt Charging System for electric trucks

ChargePoint’s (NYSE: CHPT) new Megawatt Charging System for commercial electric trucks is capable of dispensing enough energy to power around 1,000 homes.

Hossein Kazemi, ChargePoint’s CTO for hardware, said, “Megawatt charging solves one-half of the electrification equation for trucking. The companies developing electric trucks can now leverage this infrastructure to test and enable their vehicles until they meet – or even exceed – the distances covered by internal combustion trucks.”

The Megawatt Charging System cable and connector will be available on ChargePoint’s Power Link 2000 stations, part of its modular Express Plus DC fast charging platform.

The Megawatt Charging System will initially provide up to 1.2 megawatts (MW) of power. This system supports bidirectional charging and is designed to eventually deliver up to 3 MW, anticipating future vehicles that can handle such a charge. Additionally, the system is engineered for use in marine and aviation applications.

The greatest benefit of electrifying the trucking sector is the significant reduction of emissions, as transportation represents the largest polluting segment. Currently, the industry is responsible for over 400 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually in the US alone. Electrifying these vehicles is a crucial step toward achieving global climate goals. However, establishing the necessary megawatt charging infrastructure is essential to support this transition.
