C-BATT commercializing silicon-carbon composite battery anode material – Charged EVs

C-BATT, a joint venture between US lithium-ion battery components producer X-BATT and carbon and graphite products manufacturer CONSOL Innovations—a wholly owned subsidiary of US-headquartered CONSOL Energy—has launched the next phase of development and commercialization of Obsidia, its tunable silicon-carbon composite battery anode material made with domestically sourced carbon.

The aim is to improve the energy density, fast-charging capabilities and cycle life performance of batteries while mitigating the swelling problem that typically affects silicon-containing battery materials. The company expects to deliver Obsidia’s specifications to a third-party lab for independent qualification within the next year.

“The partnership between X-BATT and CONSOL Innovations propels our technology to the next level and allows us to provide a solution for the growing demand for lithium-ion batteries with American-made and American-mined products,” said C-BATT CEO Bill Easter.
