The Automobili Pininfarina Battista Cinquantacinque. It may not roll right off the tongue, but with four all-electric motors, it can definitely roll right off the starting line and then some. Today, the classic Italian automaker reborn for the electric age has introduced a new iteration of the Battista called the Cinquantacinque. It’s a nod to a 1955 Lancia model, the original Pininfarina brand designed but revamped for the modern age.
It’s only been a week since Automobili Pininfarina introduced new Batman-inspired variants of its Battista hyper GT—the automaker’s record-setting halo model, which began production in 2022 and is limited to 150 units.
Since then, we’ve seen several far more exclusive Battista variants in addition to the previously mentioned Bruce Wayne models, including the $3 million Battista Anniversario, Formula 1-inspired Battista Edizione, and the one-of-a-kind Battista Reversario, which debuted this past April.
In addition, Automobili Pininfarina has launched an ultra-luxe topless model called the B95 Barchetta—currently the most expensive BEV sold on the planet. The automaker has also unveiled a futuristic bespoke model called the PURA Vision Concept as a design study that will influence elements in future Pininfarina models.
Today, Pininfarina has unveiled a new variation of the Battista that, like many of the other variants, pays homage to the brand’s decorated past but also offers a glimpse of innovation customers will see in additional hypercar models—introducing the new Battista Cinquantacinque from Automobili Pininfarina.
New Lancia-inspired Pininfarina Battista Cinquantacinque
Today, Automobili Pininfarina unveiled the new Battista Cinquantacinque, explaining that the 1955 Lancia Florida inspired the curated variant (Cinquantacinque means “55” in Italian). The Florida was designed by the Italian brand’s founder, Battista “Pinin” Farina, and was one of his most beloved projects.
The featured image above shows the comparison between young and old. The original 1955 Lancia Florida in the image is one of only three in existence and was Pinin’s daily driver throughout much of his life.
As such, the 1950s Florida inspired the Blu Savoia Gloss bodywork and Bianco Sestriere Gloss Roof implemented on the Battista Cinquantacinque. Automobili Pininfarina’s chief design officer, Dave Amantea, spoke about the company’s history and its latest tribute to its founder:
This was a truly special and unique opportunity to design a car that pays homage to Pininfarina SpA’s heritage. The color combination of the Battista Cinquantacinque is incredible and shows the vision Battista Farina had when he designed the Lancia Florida back in the early fifties. Not only that, but that very same model helped guide me when creating the PURE Vision design concept, a truly unique vehicle that sets the template for future models from Automobili Pininfarina.
The automaker elaborated on the design elements in the 1955 Lancia Florida that inspired the PURA Vision concept, including rear-opening doors and no B pillar. The new Pininfarina Battista is clearly inspired by the design of the 1955 model but is as modern as it gets in terms of performance.
Like its BEV siblings, the Cinquantacinque features an 120 kWh battery pack and four all-electric motors in a powertrain that can deliver 1,900 horsepower, 2,340 Nm of torque, and acceleration from 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in 1.86 seconds.
Each new Battista Cinquantacinque will be hand-built by the Automobili Pininfarina team and feature multiple unique inscriptions, including on the passenger door plate and the underside of the active rear wing.
In the past, Automobili Pininfarina has shared plans to produce minimal numbers of its bespoke Battista variants, usually five or fewer. However, the automaker has yet to set a specific limit on the examples of the Battista Cinquantacinque and said it will let customer demand decide. As for price, the automaker is not divulging that information yet, but other variants of the Battista have debuted at MSRPs of $2.9 million and above.
We may learn the price of the new Battista when Automobili Pininfarina publicly debuts it in Tokyo, Japan, later this year.
