BMW’s first Neue Klasse EV just rolled off the assembly line

BMW promises its upcoming “new class” EV models will feature significantly more range, faster charging, and improved efficiency. Ahead of its debut next year, BMW’s first Neue Klasse EV models are now rolling off the assembly line at its Hungary plant.

It’s been over a year since BMW unveiled the Vision Neue Klasse EV, a preview of its high-tech future.

BMW’s Neue Klasse, or new class of vehicles, is “the biggest investment in the company’s history.” Underpinned by a new platform, BMW claims the upcoming EV models will feature “30% more range, 30% faster charging, and a 25% overall improvement in vehicle efficiency.”

Ahead of its debut next year, BMW’s first Neue Klasse models are now officially rolling off the production line.

BMW announced on Wednesday that it had produced the first test models at its Debrecen, Hungary plant.

“The production of the first test vehicles in Debrecen is an important milestone in commissioning the new plant,” BMW board member for production Milan Nedeljković said after the milestone.

BMW is now preparing for the start of series production in late 2025. Materials and vehicle parts are now being consistently delivered to its Debrecen plant as BMW scales production.

Over the next few months, BMW staff members will undergo “intensive training” on the machinery and processes as the company prepares for a successful launch.

You can see BMW’s new design theme, which will be used in upcoming models. Adrian van Hooydonk, head of BMW Group Design, said the Neue Klasse is “so progressive it looks like we skipped a model generation.”

New elements like the shark-nose upfront differentiate the next-gen EVs from BMW’s current electric lineup.

The Neue Klasse models will also feature the next-gen BMW iDrive with Panoramic Vision, a 3D head-up display.

BMW’s first Neue Klasse model will be a crossover SUV, while five more are expected to launch by 2028.
