Namma Yatri, a zero-commission ride-hailing service, has begun piloting auto and cab rentals in Bengaluru and Chennai. This move positions Namma Yatri as the first ride-hailing service to pilot auto rentals in India. Moneycontrol has reported that the service is currently available to select Android users in Bengaluru for both auto and cab rentals.
It is worth noting that Namma Yatri is testing the cab rental services in Chennai. The company also plans to expand its testing to Delhi-NCR in the coming weeks.
Rental packages
According to the report, the service offers rental packages starting at INR 190 for a 10-kilometre, one-hour auto rental. Non-AC mini cabs are priced at INR 250 for the same duration and distance, INR 285 for AC mini cabs, INR 320 for sedans, and INR 390 for XL cabs. For distances exceeding 10 kilometres or durations over an hour, additional charges range from INR 10-21 per kilometre depending on the vehicle type, along with a flat usage fee of INR 3 per minute.
Pickup charges can also vary between INR 20-30 based on the vehicle type. Night rides, starting or ending between 10 PM and 5 AM, incur a flat fee of INR 250, excluding toll charges and other surcharges.
It is worth mentioning that Namma Yatri is a zero-commission ride-hailing service and to sustain this model, the platform collects a free from drivers. Drivers have two options — a INR 25 fee for unlimited rides per day and INR 3.50 per ride with no charges after 10 rides.
Compared to other offerings like Ola and Uber, these charges are nominal whereas both the ride-hailing apps charge around 40% commission from drivers.
For those unaware, the Namma Yatri app was launched back in 2022 by JustPay in collaboration with BECKN Foundation and supported by Bengaluru’s Auto Rickshaw Driver’s Union (ARDU), The app initially, only offered auto bookings and is now planning to expand to cab and auto rental services as well.
