Mullen Automotive scores 0 million in new capital, will put Bollinger B4 into production – Charged EVs

We’ve been fans of Bollinger Motors since we interviewed founder Robert Bollinger back in 2018. We wrote at the time that his company’s rugged, no-nonsense electric work trucks should find a lot of buyers, if the company could navigate the shoals that have wrecked most of the EV startups.

Bollinger’s 2022 acquisition by Mullen Automotive was an important rite of passage. Now Mullen has taken a positive step towards the big time, raising $150 million in new financing commitments. The company says the new infusion of cash will allow it to fund operations over the next 13 months, including putting Bollinger’s B4 electric truck into production.

The Bollinger B4 is a cabover-style chassis with a 15,500 lb GVWR. It sports a 250 kW (325 hp) e-axle that cranks out 625 lb-ft of torque, and a choice of one or two 79 kWh battery packs that deliver 85 or 185 miles of range, respectively.

Mullen’s THREE and ONE commercial delivery vehicles are in production and available for delivery now. The Bollinger B4 is scheduled to join them later this year.

Mullen has announced several tidbits of good news of late. Its Mullen ONE, a Class 1 electric cargo van, and Mullen THREE, a Class 3 cab-forward truck, have been approved for the California Air Resource Board’s voucher incentive program, which provides up to $45,000 per vehicle. The trucks are also eligible for federal EV tax credits of up to $7,500. The company expanded its commercial dealer network with the addition of Pritchard EV and National Auto Fleet Group. The company’s Tunica, Mississippi, vehicle manufacturing center earned Foreign Trade Zone Status approval, which grants more favorable treatment of the company’s exports.
